August has been a struggle however we have managed to provide some great skiing for our guests despite battling strong winds and clouds on many of the operational days. As we look toward September the weather pattern has finally changed with the first big anticyclone for the season arriving and promising more stable and cooler conditions. If you have been waiting for the perfect spell of weather it looks like September will provide!

We just got chased out of the mountains after three good powder days and all of a sudden my phone is ringing as people have heard it’s going to snow! Since operations started in 1986 it has been a continuous struggle to convince the skier and boarders that conditions on the ski areas do not reflect that of the back county. We operate in high glaciated mountains that are much further west of the ski resorts hence we get significantly more snow and can have powder snow conditions when the resorts are skiing hard pack! When it blows in Canterbury it snows in the Arrowsmith mountains! When you have a warm windy day we are getting a new carpet so don’t wait for the Southerlies get in after the Westerly storms and you wont be disappointed. Yesterday riders certainly were happy with the conditions!
