What the weather stations says!

We are lucky that the government agency NIWA constructed a high tech remote weather station close to the bottom of “Homeward Bound” one of regular runs several years ago. It has been great for temperatures and wind direction and strength however we have found that we have to double the precipitation rates to get a more accurate measure of new snow at higher elevations! The last 24hs shows over 50cm of settled new snow and the forecast is for a lot more snow this week. We had some snow falls earlier at higher elevations and we are now very confident of having an excellent snow cover to start our season on July 1st!
