Every season we run a comprehensive training for all our guides. While our guides are all qualified through the New Zealand Mountain Guides Association and are internationally recognised by the IFMGA it is still necessary to get together to share new knowledge and refresh operational procedures. This year we had 18 keen guides at a training that focused on avalanche safety, lst aid response, guest satisfaction and rescue procedures.
We are ready to go but the forecast for this week is not good however it will produce significant snowfalls in our mountains with lesser amounts at the ski resorts. We have had a slow start to this winter and opened on limited snow conditions but this will all change next week. The other good thing is that we don’t have any early season weak layers so the forecast snow should bond well and produce a good snowpack. My pick is the week starting July 11th but then again whatwould I know it’s only my 25th season at Methven Heli!
