What a great season it was! 2011 produced some of the best powder skiing for many years and the fresh snow kept coming right through to our last day of operation on October 20th. This can be attributed to the La Nina weather phenomena which is forecast to remain strong into next season so lets hope that this is the case. Our guides are now getting ready for a busy summer season climbing and instructing mountaineering in the Mount Cook region. You can find out what’s happening at www.alpineguides.co.nz. If you want to buy a lodge in Thredbo please get in contact with us! John Fielding has decided to sell in this popular Australian ski resort so he can spend more time at Methven Heliski! A great guest for many season’s John feels he needs more extended weekends like the past one. Looking at his picture it is not hard to understand why! The season keeps going and with the rugby world cup in full action it’s a great time to be in NZ!

Winter keeps coming

Great skiing and riding yesterday in the Southern Glaciers region of Methven heli’s terrain. A series of frontal systems within a south-westerly airstream are holding any signs of spring at bay!Unfortunately while snow quality and quantity remain high the numbers are dropping off so if you are keen on some quality time in the mountains let us know!

As we move toward September despite a big snow base and great conditions forecast for the month ahead numbers do drop off! At some point our 2nd helicopter has to go back and after a great season to date it is always a shame to say goodbye to Troy for another year! Troy a is fantastic pilot and has done an amazing job getting Burton Team riders into difficult zones during this past August. If you have had the pleasure of flying with Troy you will know what I mean, if you haven’t book in for September as Troy is keen stay up here for as long as he can!!!
